New Tourism Awards Program launched (04/06/23)
NB 723
June 23, 2004
FREDERICTON (CNB) -- Tourism is a unique, vibrant and growing industry in New Brunswick, generating significant revenues
every year. To recognize the contributions from the many operators in the province, the Department of Tourism and Parks has
created the Tourism Excellence & Innovation Awards, Minister Joan MacAlpine announced today.
"In today's high energy tourism industry, visitors are looking for more than fantastic scenery. They want distinctive,
exceptional and exciting experiences and consistent professional service," MacAlpine said. "That level of performance does
not just happen. It takes knowledge, innovation, skills and the right attitude and that is why we created these awards."
The 2004 Tourism Excellence & Innovation Awards will recognize the significant contribution New Brunswick tourism operators
have demonstrated through outstanding excellence and innovation in three specific areas: Product Development, Marketing and
Partnerships.
These awards are designed to honour and recognize industry operators who have significantly contributed to the growth and
success of this important economic sector and are turning New Brunswick into a leading year-round vacation destination.
Any tourism operator, including accommodations, attractions, activity operators, and festivals/events co-ordinators, meeting
the eligibility requirements can be nominated in these categories. The eligibility requirements are outlined in the nomination
forms. There is no cost to enter. A panel of industry professionals will judge all submissions.
Nominations will be sought from tourism industry partners such as regional and sectoral tourism associations, municipalities
and the provincial Enterprise Agencies. Those nominating a tourism industry operator are encouraged to work directly with
that operator to ensure all relevant information is received by the deadline of 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3.
The 2004 Tourism Excellence and Innovation Awards will be presented at the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick
Annual General Meeting Awards Banquet, Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 in Moncton.

Tourism Awareness Week takes place June 20-26 (04/06/16)
NB 693
June 16, 2004
FREDERICTON (CNB) -- In recognition of tourism's tremendous economic, social, and cultural impact in New Brunswick,
Premier Bernard Lord and Tourism and Parks Minister Joan MacAlpine announced today that New Brunswick Tourism Awareness Week
will be observed from June 20-26, 2004. This coincides with National Tourism Week, sponsored by the Tourism Industry Association
of Canada.
"New Brunswick's tourism industry makes immense contributions to our province. It provides jobs, generates revenue
and enhances our overall quality of life," Lord said. "Tourism Awareness Week provides the opportunity to raise public awareness
of the tremendous social and economic importance of tourism."
Visitors to New Brunswick spent over $1.1 billion in 2003, supporting over 31,000 jobs and generating $272 million
in federal, provincial and municipal taxes. These tax revenues are able to finance social and other programs including health
care and education for the benefit of all residents of New Brunswick.
"Tourism plays a vital role in New Brunswick - economically, socially and culturally. The industry is much more
dynamic and broad than many people realize," MacAlpine said. "It is an industry that affects all New Brunswickers and therefore
we all have a role to play in the success and sustainability of this industry. By working together we will not only sustain
this important industry but will see it thrive as more visitors come to our beautiful province."
"Tourism Awareness Week is our industry's opportunity to focus additional attention on tourism," said Yvan Laviolette,
President of the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick. "We are excited about the upcoming tourism season and during
this week we hope to enhance New Brunswickers knowledge, interest and participation in tourism's many events, attractions
and opportunities."
New Brunswick Tourism Awareness Week will highlight the industry and promote a wider understanding of the value
of tourism to the local economy.
